On the left, you see a document entry. In this activity, we had to create a persona and then make up a reason on why we had to go on the hajj. On the left, is the starting part of that. We had to be in time of place, like we were actually there. But, because of this we had fun planning and making events that actually took place, and we each got a piece of gold when we got to Cairo in the end.
This was really fun. We were able to learn about Mansa Musa's pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj) while we were also creating a persona and feeling like we were actually part of that journey. Like making it like we're so excited to saying fifty years later that it was worth it and that we wished we could have gone again. In this story, I go on the hajj with my mother, and two daughters. We pass through so many places, and we go through rough terrain.
When I first heard about what we had to do, I automatically knew what I was going to write about and who I was going to be. We had to write six documents, but they were all in different towns that we passed on the way to the journey to Mecca. Some were really fun and easy to cross through, while other were so heavy and tiring.

The Big Wave

My class read a book called, The Big Wave, by Pearl S.Buck. While reading the book we had to write a haiku after each ending point, about what we read and based on the story. After we had finished reading the book we should have had five haiku. With that, we had to write a theme paragraph explaining what we thought was the theme. I chose the theme was life is stronger than death. In the book Kino's father repeats that saying over and over again. Kino doesn't understand what it means until they grow older and Jiya is able to make his life.
With the five haiku we put them in order of which chapter or section was first and we added pictures so that you could get an image in your head. The first haiku started in the top right and went down into a circle to reach the end of the story. In the middle of the circle was the theme paragraph which I mentioned earlier. This book was really fun to read and it was also very interesting.

We have been reading a book called, Crispin. In this book, there is a very poor kid who only lives with his mother. His mother dies and he is forced to live on his own. He believes that his father is dead, but he doesn't even know that he is the son of a very well known wealthy person. Through out his journey to escape from his home, he gets to meet someone by the name of Bear. Crispin is blamed for stealing, and he is declared a wolf's head, meaning anyone can kill him. He tells that to Bear, and Bear decides that he will help out Crispin. At the end of the book, everyone finds out that Crispin is son of Lord Furnival.
For this book, we had to make a diamante poem. A diamante poem is a seven line poem that contains of nouns, adjectives, and verbs. The first and last line are both just one word that is a noun. The second and sixth line both have adjectives. The third and fifth line both have verbs. The line in the middle, the fourth line, is either four nouns or, a short sentence. The diamante poem is supposed to show how a certain character changes over the book. That's why my poem starts off as Asta's son, before he was known as the son of the Lord Furnival.
